“Don’t Move” . A short film analysis

Directed by: Anthony Melton

Film reviewed: Annan Isabella

STORY AND THEME

Don’t Move is a horror short film that made me feel tense and anxious from the start. The story immediately engages as a group of friends accidentally summon a demon that kills anything that moves, forcing them to stay completely still to survive. This simple but terrifying idea builds suspense and keeps viewers on edge, with the central message showing how fear and desperation can break people under pressure.

CHARACTERS AND PERFORMANCES

The characters are believable in their fear, and their performances make the situation feel real. Some characters stand out because of their panic, which adds to the tension, while the relationships between them show how fear can break trust.

CINEMATOGRAPHY

The cinematography is dark and effective, using shadows and close shots to create a oppresive feeling. The shots of the demon moving around while the characters try to stay still stand out the most, making the fear visible.

SOUND AND MUSIC

The sound design enhances the tension, with quiet moments making every small noise feel dangerous, while the demon’s sounds add to the fear. The sound effects and music are well-balanced, making the scenes scarier.

OVERALL IMPACT

Overall, Don’t Move met my expectations for a horror short film. Its biggest strength is how it creates fear from a simple idea, and it made me feel nervous throughout. I would recommend it to others who like horror films because it is short, scary, and leaves a lasting impression about how fear can paralyze us.
