FILM REVIEW ON (LAZY SUZAN) BY NANA ADJOA NYAMEKYE AIDOO
Lazy Suzan
Directed By:Temi Timely
Produced By:David 'Lamb' Lambert
Country:U.S.A
As someone who believes there is always an easier way to achieve something, and that there is no reward for suffering,Lazy Suzan truly validates my opinion on that.I felt validated by the end of the film. The opening quote "laziness is the mother of invention"really triggered my curiosity to engage more. The short film talks about a young girl named Suzan who has the fantacies that her laziness would lead her to create amazing inventions. In my opinion this film is more of a work smart not hard situation. It engages the viewer from start to finish.
The characters feel very relatable and well developed. The mother and the entire family at large disagree with suzan and believe she is lazy but I believe she is innovative. Her refusal to move a lot sparked a sense of creativity in her to invent things like the robomaid and the beverage buddy which she believed in another world will make her life and that of their family restaurant easier.Annie,Suzan's sister stood out for me as her character is a direct contrast to that of Suzan.
The film was shot beautifully. The lighting and colors in the film really set a vibrant mood which I think was in contrast with the intended mood for the film. The part that stood out for me was the scene at the dining table with the entire family when the shots traveled from one character to another as they spoke which also drives the viewers attention. The soundtrack used in the film were danceable tunes that left me at the edge of my seat dancing. The last three minutes of the film has a very interesting twist to it.
Overall, this is a short film I will totally recommend. It leaves in the space of imaginable innovation and you might be dancing at the edge of your seat like I was.
